Looking to earn extra money as a side hustle? Whether you’re saving for a dream vacation, planning a gap year, or working toward buying your first home, there are countless ways to generate additional income. It might mean cutting back on distractions like TV, but the rewards are worth it.
Housesitting
Combine travel with savings by house sitting. Platforms like TrustedHousesitters.com, HouseCarers.com, and MindMyHouse.com connect you with homeowners who need someone to care for their property while they’re away. While house sitting is typically unpaid, you’ll benefit from free accommodation, saving you significant travel costs. Assignments can range from a week to several months, making it a flexible option for travelers.
Petsitting or Childsitting
If you enjoy spending time with animals or kids, these are excellent side hustle options. Start locally by offering your services to neighbors or by signing up on regional platforms. Want to take it a step further? Consider becoming an au pair abroad, combining childcare with the opportunity to experience a new culture.
Tutoring
If you excel in a subject like math, languages, or even accounting, tutoring could be a profitable side hustle. Many people are eager to pay for help with schoolwork, exam prep, or mastering new skills. You can tutor in person or online, giving you flexibility to work around your schedule.
Sell webinars or e-books
As we spoke about tutoring, you might have some skill, that would be of interest for somebody else. You can either create and sell an e-book about this or give an online lessons, along with some webinar or so.
Photography
If you have an eye for capturing great photos, your skills could become a source of income. Platforms like Shutterstock and Alamy allow photographers to sell their work to a global audience. You could also repurpose your images as wall art by turning them into posters or prints and selling them on marketplaces like Etsy. It’s a great way to monetize your passion while reaching art lovers and home decorators.
Rent out what you don´t use
Do you own a car, apartment, or even an extra room that often sits unused? These assets could bring in extra cash. For example:
Rent out your car / caravan / ski to someone in need of a short-term lease.
Offer your spare room / home / cottage on platforms like Airbnb to travellers visiting your area.
Every region has its own dedicated platforms for rentals—just do a quick online search, and you’ll find options suited to your location.
Seasonal part time work
The holiday season brings many opportunities for part-time work, especially in shopping malls or retail stores. Stores often begin recruiting as early as summer to prepare for the Christmas rush. Roles can include:
Gift wrapping
Customer service
Stock replenishment
Check with your favorite local stores or larger chains to see if they’re hiring for the season. It’s a flexible way to earn extra money during a busy time of year.
Paid donations
In many countries, donating blood, plasma, or even eggs (for women) is not only a way to help others but also an opportunity to earn money. Research local donation centers to see what’s available in your area. It’s a meaningful way to contribute to your community while supplementing your income.
Create and sell products
If you’re skilled in crafts like sewing, jewelry-making, or designing stationery, consider turning your hobby into a business. Platforms like Etsy make it easy to showcase and sell handmade items to customers worldwide. With a bit of creativity and effort, your products could become a popular online store.
Social media
You can either become an influencer and start earning money from brand collaborations or you can help small businesses to take care of their social media. Often times they want to spend time with products and customers and do not have the time to do the gram.
Copywritting
There is a lot of companies, that need copywriters to have a look at what they wrote. If you are good with grammar, go for it.
Writting a book/article
Some people have written stories, that are laying in their drawers. You might not believe me, but some of them could really be good! You can either self publish a book and sell to your followers, try to pitch to a publisher or to certain magazines or newspapers to write for them. Who knows, you might be the new Carrie Bradshaw.
Sell your stuff
Do not try to tell me, that you need it all. You don´t i am sure. There is a skateboard, old lamp, second toaster, clothing that does not fit, books you won´t read again ... just take photos of it and sell it. You would be surprised how many things people "need" i once sold a head scratch tool (do not ask me why i had it)! You gain money and declutter your house that is a win win situation.
Be a virtual assistant
You know how many small businesses need help to find out some information, book something, adjust something, call someone and so on? You could be the right hand of these people, help with excel documents and other things from the coziness of your home
Invest in P2P loans
You better find some more information, before jumping into this one. But if you have some spare money and at least a bit of knowledge, it could do well for you in long run.
Become Uber driver or food deliver
If you have a car, know your area and don´t mind driving entire evening or night you might try to become a taxi/uber driver or check some local delivering companies and maybe deliver people´s food.
So how about you guys? Do you have any of these side hustles? Klara personally, has three of them - those being photography, selling own products and social media management.
