As i used to work in a luxury travel agency i knew this chain of hotels very well and i always wanted to visit some of them and experience their hospitality. I was lucky enough to be able to visit the Kempinsky High Tatras in Slovakia with my sister, so when words where said, i was packed within seconds.
From 5* hotel I always expect an absolute maximum to be done from the very beginning of our stay to the very last second of it. They should always be there for the guests, to make their stay pleasant.
Our hotel room in Kempinski hotel was unfortunately not done by the time we arrived, but we did not regret nor minded, as we were seated in the hotel lobby, by a fireplace and were served a welcome drink. Sparkling wine of the Kempinski brand, which to me tastes better than some type of Moet champagne. Our luggage was then taken to our room and so we could move as well, to finally see the lake and mountain view from our room, which is worth it!
First i ever experienced their special system by the door. No classical ,,hang on door" signs to clean the room or let you sleep, but buttons on a panel right next to the room door.
We arrived very soon in the afternoon and there was plenty of time until dinner
and so we decided to indulge into the hotel wellness, which looked pretty impressive on the website. We all know, how it usually look on a official hotel website and then when you are actually there. After a walk through the historical hotel building we entered an enormous hall full of marble and fine design. You are also welcomed by a very pleasant scent of cosmetics they use and that is a Mcely brand. You can by it on spot, online or just enjoy it during a massage.
On your way to the wellness you walk around a fitness room, which is very nicely done with the newest machines and you can also find such things as bosu and jumping rope.
The entire hotel, or more likely to say its halls, are equipped with designer cozy like furniture, but what we loved the most, where armchairs by the swimming-pool. So comfortable and easy to fall asleep in.
When you enter the pool area, you might experience the wow effect of it as there are chandeliers hanging over the smooth water and an entire wall is made out of glass so you can fully relax, with daylight and view of the mountains and lake.
We were simply just laying there, watching people pass by and later also the snow fall.
There is another section with saunas, from which i was a bit disappointed. Do not take me wrong, the interior is beautiful, nice and neat, but the only thing we truly enjoyed was the Kneipp walk.
Our stay was with half-board which consisted out of a three-course menu. We could choose from two kinds of starters, two main meals and only one dessert. All of the dishes we experienced were tasty, enjoyable and for some need to say in a normal human size. No art on a plate, which leaves you to go to sleep hungry. Little problem was, that both of the main meal options were with meat and i am a vegetarian. I asked our waiter, whether they have or it would be possible to get a vegetarian version. I expected something like certainly, but i got a comment ,,And can´t you eat at least the fish?" i found that quite rude, but after a while the chef prepared me gnocchi with mushrooms and the other night quinoa risotto.
As i said dessert was a single option and one actually looked like made out of a supermarket powder. Which was a shame truly.
Breakfast on the other hand was perfect with the selection of the local cheeses, very nice cappuccino and wide selection of fruits.
We departed the Kempinski High Tatras hotel feeling very satisfied. The two nights stand gave us enough time to experience, what this hotel has to offer and now we feel confident, when suggesting you to experience it on your own.
Our rating among the 5* hotels 9/10
